My Rambling Autobiography

I was born June  16th, 1964 when the Beatles were starting their "invasion" of North America. My earliest memories include staring up a birch bark tree in our backyard for hours on  end and eating glass and pennies that i found washed up on the beach. In Kindergarten, I remember my teacher Mrs Simpsons slapping me in the face as I was lined up to go home at lunch. i have no idea why because I think I was a good boy and even if I wasn't, should I ever be slapped by a teacher? In grade one, I met my best friends and we're still good friends now even though he became a doctor and now lives in the country with a bunch of horses. Also In grade one, I remember being introduced to subtraction. I think I may have been the only kid in the room who didn't get it and I remember feeling awful and crying about it. To this day as a teacher, I still remember what that felt like and I think it has helped me to be a more understanding teacher if one of my students just doesn't get something. I remember my first dog Dusty who was a black lab with a white crest on his chest. he was a great dog and very friendly but then some kids on the block always teased him by throwing rocks at him so one day Dusty bit one of these brats so they had to put Dusty down! (They put the wrong animal down if you ask me now!)

My Personal Credo

I've never really thought too much about this so consider this to be a  work in progress. I know I will be changing it. Also, these are not in any particular order.

1) I believe above all else, you have  to be yourself but only if yourself is not hurtful to others. If so, it's time to take a hard look in the mirror and make some positive changes.

2) I believe that you shouldn't  let other's opinions change who you are. People need to accept you without conditions!

3)I believe we should  do the right thing because it's the right thing to do.

4) I think we all need to play nice with others. Do this early and often and you will have a great skill for life!

5) I believe you should smile even when you don't feel like it. Fake it!

6) When you are stressed, take a walk or do something nice for yourself. treat yourself to some nice Pumpkin Pie ice cream for example like I did today.

7) Treat yourself to pumpkin pie ice cream even if you are not stressed!

8) Remember to believe in yourself and your immense untapped potential. You are TNT!

9)I believe in  being  kind to animals, They will give you so much back.

10) Never be afraid to speak the truth. It is bigger than you and I.

11) Read! Read! Read! I don't care what-it will become a lifelong, richly rewarding habit!

12) I believe in do the ordinary things extraordinarily well.

13) I also believe in  making the extraordinary seem ordinary.

14) I believe that kids have more to teach us adults than we have  to teach them.

Things You May Not Know About Me...

1) I am secretly quite shy. Teaching allows me to be myself and unleashes my inner child.
2) I once acted in Dinner Theater.
3) I worry about my back. I think some days that I might end up in a wheelchair before too long!
4) I once wrote a teen novel that was 250 pages long. (I never finished it!)
5) I hate bullying! I realize almost everyone has done it. This probably stems from being bullied rather severely when I was your age!
6) I generally prefer the company of cats to people.
7) I have a secret desire to be a famous actor-I would love to play a villain!
8) I consider my class this year to be like my family.

Amanda Todd Bullying

This report really touched me. What do you think should be the consequences for someone who is caught cyber bullying? Have you ever been cyber bullied OR cyber bullied someone yourself? Click on the link below to rewatch this video.

You Think You're Brave?

Man Breaks Sound Barrier?

This is a little video that shows a skydiver setting a world record for highest freefall jump.

As you watch this, what do you think might be going through his mind? What would be going through yours if you experienced it? Why do you think he is doing this? Try to go deeper than just "setting a record". What's the bravest stunt you've attempted? How did you feel afterwards?

Attack on World Trade Center

Wow! It's been 11 years already. This video helps us remember a tragedy that will forever mark our generation. For those who were too young to remember, it will allow you to experience the shock felt by the world on that day.

What was your reaction to the video? Can you imagine what it might have been like to wait for news of a loved one?
